The origins of Assisi, as for other cities in Umbria, are uncertain. It was originally inhabited by a population, the Umbrians, settled in central Italy. Subsequently it was affected by the Etruscan and Roman influence.

After the fall of the Roman Empire, the city became a settlement of the Goths, around 545. Later it fell under the Lombard hands. Around the year 1000, it became an independent municipality. During this period it experienced an extraordinary development above all thanks to the monastic movements (especially the Benedictines).

Around 1180, San Francesco was born, the most famous of its citizens. In 1202, during a war with nearby Perugia, Francesco was taken prisoner and held in prison for over a year. From 1206, he dedicated himself to the service of God, following Christ, through the service of the poor, living as poor himself. Famous is his public renunciation, in the square of Assisi, of all the possessions of the rich parent Pietro di Bernardone, a textile merchant who traveled between Italy and France.

Francis was proclaimed a saint in 1228, only two years after his death, by Pope Gregory IX.

In modern times, among the most traditional, widespread and active economic activities there are artisanal ones, such as the processing of ceramics, wrought iron and wood. The workshops of goldsmith, inlay, carving, cabinet making, those of religious chisel sculptures, as well as the art of restoration, ranging from furniture to musical instruments and glass are renowned.

In the nearby hamlet of Rivotorto, where our company is based, agriculture has been, in the past, the fulcrum of commercial activities, in particular related to vegetable gardening.

Subsequently there was also a development at an industrial level in which there are a number of companies operating in the wood, cement and, starting from the 1940s, also and above all in knitwear, thanks to the initiative of Giuseppa Turrioni and Lorenzo Filippucci.

Thanks to them, the family business has progressively expanded and developed up to the present day, reaching very high quality and production levels.
